- Automated External Defibrillator
- (AED), a portable electronic device that diagnoses and treats potentially life threatening cardiac arrhythmias that may lead to cardiac arrest by applying electrical signals that stop the arrhythmia and allow the heart to re-establish an effective rhythm. An AED is designed for use by a layperson (ideally with CPR or First Responder emergency medical training) and is more limited than the defibrillators used by professionals.
