Direct Inward Dialing

Direct Inward Dialing
(DID), a telephone company feature offering that enables customer PBX systems (or VOIP systems) to route calls to internal extensions automatically. The PBX receives the called number and other signaling information and can make its own routing decisions; this enables a PBX to have fewer connections to the public network than it has extensions (in typical office systems) or more in the case of call centers (see Automatic Call Distributor).
