High-Definition Television

High-Definition Television
a digital television broadcasting system with higher resolutions (for example, 1080p) than traditional formats (NTSC, SECAM, PAL). Compared to standard television, high-definition provides more detailed images (higher linear resolution) and less flicker (Progressive Scanning), additionally HDTV can display 16:9 aspect ratio pictures without letterboxing.
