- Identification and Authentication
- is a two-step access control process. Identification should uniquely identify a user or a group of users; common examples include cards, account numbers, user names, computer MAC address, etc. Authentication is a process for verifying the claimed identity based on a) something you know, such as a password or a personal identification number; something you have such as a Smart Card, token, or key; or something you are, such your picture or a biometric such as fingerprint, voice, retina, or iris characteristics.
