Power Factor

Power Factor
a characteristic of alternating current electric systems expressed as a dimensionless number between 0 and 1 representing the ratio of real power to apparent power. Resistive loads like heaters have a power factor of 1; inductive and capacitive loads like ballasts, motors, and computers, have power factors that are less than 1 and require higher currents to transfer a given quantity of power.
